James Hunt Emerson (born 28 January 1952, Newcastle upon Tyne) is a cartoonist for the Beano comic. He studied fine art at Birmingham, but dropped out after one year, and got involved in underground comics, working various day jobs and drawing at night.
Emerson's work first appeared in The Beano in 2002 when he drew the revival of Little Plum. He continued to draw Little Plum until 2006 when it was replaced by the newly created strip Ratz, developed and drawn by Emerson. From October 2006 he would share art duties on this strip with Laura Howell, who inked in his pencil drawings. In April 2009, Emerson took over as artist for Fred's Bed, which had previously appeared as reprints from The Beezer and Topper but was continuing with new stories, with Howell becoming the sole artist for Ratz at the same time. However, he would only work on this strip for a few months before returning to Ratz later the same year.
